Circa 1850
The earliest inhabitants in the area, now know as Wilson, were wild animals and Indians belonging to the Ute and Shoshone tribes. It, at one time, included in the farming country of West Weber. The first enterprise was a stock-range business created by Alvin Bybee and William Middleton. By 1855-56, due to hard winters both men had moved their herds to either California or a range in the Ogden Valley. (Holmes 1)
John Staker came to West Weber, now Wilson, in 1850. He settle his "claim about one-half mile of the old Wilson Chapel." In 1853 Mr. Staker raised the first grain crop grown in Wilson. (Holmes 1). The farming community of Wilson received its name from the Wilson brothers: George Clinton Wilson, Lewis Dunbar Wilson and Bradley Barlow Wilson.
The first boundaries of Wilson were just west of the Weber River and extended east to Ogden to the north to Marriott-Slaterville and south to Kanesville . This area was part of Buena Vista, later known as Weber County. (Holmes 1)
